Born and raised in Marietta, Georgia, Shelly E. Johnson is an Atlanta-based Christian Artist, Worship Leader and Songwriter.  Raised in a strong Christian home, it wasn’t until the age of fourteen when Shelly’s father tragically died from cancer that Shelly became serious about her relationship with God, and her life was changed forever.  It was during that experience that Shelly began writing songs and felt God’s calling on her life to ministry.

That dream led Shelly to Nashville in 2003 to attend Belmont University, where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Commercial Music. Upon graduating from Belmont in May 2007, Shelly co-produced and recorded her first independent album entitled Wash It Away, comprised of ten original songs. Shelly spent the following year traveling the southeast leading worship, singing in churches, and pursuing her ministry fulltime.

In August 2008, Shelly’s song “Power Of The Cross” was awarded Song of the Year at the Gospel Music Association’s Music In The Rockies Conference, and her song “Draw Near” was awarded Scripture Song of the Year.
In June 2009, Shelly released her second independent album entitled Mosaic of Grace, comprised of eleven original songs, including the award-winning signature song “Power Of The Cross”.  In August 2010, multi Dove Award-winning artist Natalie Grant recorded and released Shelly’s song “Power Of The Cross” on her album Love Revolution.

In February 2011, Shelly signed her first publishing and recording deal with LifeWay Worship, in partnership with Maranatha Music, and is set to release a new album in 2012.

While songwriting remains at the forefront of her career, one of Shelly’s greatest passions is leading worship.  In addition to traveling the country regularly singing & leading worship at churches, women’s conferences, and other events, Shelly is passionate about serving in the local church.  Before moving to Atlanta in September 2011, Shelly was blessed to serve as a worship leader at Brentwood Baptist Church in Nashville, where she and her husband Jack were active members for seven years.

Shelly spends her time writing songs, traveling the country leading worship, and is currently working on her next album, set to release in 2012.
